$1,000,000 Challenge Grant

July 2007

We are writing you today to ask if you will consider helping us add bed space here at our “Center if Hope” campus.

Last month, a local supporter approved a matching gift for up to one million dollars.

For every dollar Teen Challenge obtains, this foundation will give two dollars up to a maximum of one million dollars. The agreement is good for up to three years.

Our goal is to obtain $500,000 as soon as possible which will be matched by the $1,000,000 gift making the total $1,500,000.

Because of the match, a gift of $50 becomes $150; a gift of $500 becomes $1,500; and a gift of $5,000 becomes $15,000.

This amount will be invested into our “Center of Hope” campus on Appleton Avenue. We will be renovating our campus adding a much needed chapel along with a dorm which will help double our bed space.

We would like to ask if you will consider a gift towards this much needed opportunity.

We have included a copy of our site plan (pdf) with the details of what we feel the Lord is giving us to do.

In addition to obtaining this challenge match we also are working very hard on the operating support that will be needed to sustain the additional bed space.

This one million dollar grant approval is by far the largest gift ever offered to Teen Challenge Wisconsin and one of the largest private gifts ever approved for a Teen Challenge in America.

When the foundation met in Chicago this past week, they spent considerable time evaluating our grant request which included an evaluation of our board leadership, staffing, past history and financial condition. The founder of this group of individuals had this to say,

‘Every gift we have given Teen Challenge has been a good investment. You always do a very good job with our gifts and you continue to help more and more people. Our gift will help you help more hurting people and we are glad to help.”

Today our centers are some of the best in the country. This challenge grant will help us greatly improve and increase our services here in Wisconsin and on Milwaukee’s north side.

Any gift sent in the enclosed red envelop will be designated for this project and matched 2 to 1. Thanks for considering a gift.

June 2007

“You can’t do me like Jesus” was heard throughout the crowd as Alvin Cox, staff of Teen Challenge, got ‘krunk’ for Jesus on June 29th and 30th 2007. Children from the surrounding community on 91st and Appleton were invited to listen to several Christian rap artists, play games, and enjoy lunch on the Teen Challenge campus. There were 200 kids that participated over two days having their face painted, tossing water balloons and eggs, blowing bubbles, and jumping rope. Alvin Cox, the MC, shared with the kids the dangers of drugs and preached a message of hope for them through Jesus Christ. The staff was able to reach out and form relationships with kids in this neighborhood, brining a positive message. If you would like to volunteer at one of these ministries or have a talent you would like to share, contact Bernadette Dawson at 414-466-4415.
